AI is a Prism, Not a Source

Creativity has always worked like light through a prism.
Master artists often describe inspiration not as something they force into existence, but as energy already present in the universe that flows through them. They are the prism—not generating the light, but catching it and bending it into new forms. Their craft lies in learning to channel and shape this creative energy.
Now AI adds a new dimension to this flow. When people talk about AI replacing creativity, they miss something fundamental: AI doesn't generate the initial spark any more than we do. It's not the source of light—it's an additional prism, amplifying our ability to explore and shape ideas in new ways.
Take writing. I start with an idea—like AI as a creative prism—and within seconds, I can explore it from multiple angles with my writing partners ChatGPT and Claude.
For visuals, tools like Midjourney give me instant bursts of possibilities, four variations at a time.
And for coding, I can speak a basic prototype into existence with Replit in just a few minutes to gut check an idea.
Each generation is a new refraction, bending and branching my original thought into unexpected directions—like a crystal catching light and creating patterns I didn't imagine.
Then, once I've seen enough, AI acts as a reverse prism—taking all those scattered beams of possibility and helping me focus them back into a single, concentrated beam representing the path I feel most compelled to explore.
While AI excels at both splitting ideas and bringing them back together, the final convergence—that last mile of refinement—remains distinctly human.
AI can help synthesize my stream of consciousness rambles and countless drafts into coherent patterns, but it can't make the crucial final decisions that transform technically correct work into my work.
There's no "make this come from the heart" button, no "ensure this expresses my core beliefs" switch.
The prism bends light beautifully, but the subtle art of focusing it onto something personally meaningful still requires a human touch.
The true transformation isn't about replacing humans in this creative loop—it's about expanding our prismatic potential, adding new ways to channel and shape the creative energy flowing through each of us.
How thoroughly can we explore the spectrum of ideas before we have to commit to a direction? How fully can we distill the fruits of our exploration into an execution that resonates? How far can we bend the light before it must land?
AI doesn't provide the light. It bends it.
And through this new prism, we're seeing a universe of possibility and colors we never knew existed.
