Even if the outcome is less defined, don't you measure performance against pre-defined frameworks (whether right =accurate, or easy to use in case of UX). I think you are onto something with this line of thinking, but seems like there's more to be explored.

Like I’m imagining there’s some inspiration to be found with existing creative tools like music production software where sophisticated tooling can lead to infinite outputs.
